Our 1st SAIL experience

summer in Greenville = SAIL

For those of you who aren't familiar with SAIL (Swim Association Invitational League), it is swim team. Mason has asked for the past 2 summers if she was old enough to "do swim team." 2007 was finally the year and she has loved it! She has already figured out that a huge part of SAIL is social. She is all about taking her cooler with a peanut butter sandwich, random snacks, and of course Gatorade (because that's what you drink when you're doing a sport!). On any given Thursday night, you will find Mason sitting in her little folding chair in the middle of the Brookfield swim team - she's in heaven! Most weeks she would swim short free (25 yards, freestyle). She has also added backstroke to her repertoire. Unfortunately, the 1st week she was scheduled to swim back, the meet was called due to a terrible storm. At the last meet, she was able to swim back, but got "dis-cancelled" (or DQ'd in most people's speak!) because she rolled over to check out where the wall was. To her credit, Coach Plyler hadn't told her that she couldn't roll over! It didn't affect her mood at all - she was so excited about swimming back that she didn't care about being dis-cancelled! We missed the final meet last week because we were at the beach. We're now looking forward to divisionals in a couple of weeks!

As much as Mason has enjoyed SAIL, the whole family has benefited from the experience because we've gotten to know some of our neighbors better. It's been a lot of fun for all of us and we can't wait until next year!

Anne, once when I was in the middle of a meet, I heard my parents screaming for me and going crazy (because I was six swimming against eight year-olds and in the lead) so in mid stroke I looked up and began waving to my parents who were videoing and so fervently cheering me on. I wasn't even aware that I was in a competition! You guys will have to video Mason and post it for us!!
